Goddamit. Last of the good ones. Wonder if Trump and Republicans will be able to fill her seat before Biden takes office

Wow. Tough lady who went through a lot in her professional and private life. I remember some time ago when she was on the Colbert Show and she was quite funny.

RIP Ruth

Goddammit. RIP to a true hero, and it's doubly tragic that this happened at the worst possible time given the nature of the POTUS who will choose her replacement and of the GOP scum in the Senate who'll unanimously approve them.

She should have stepped down when she had the chance.

I'm sure Moscow Mitch will stick to his rule of not passing through a new justice during an election year right?

Not try, succeed. The GOP has the numbers to push this through right now. We could be looking at a conservative court for the next several generations. Even if Trump does not get reelected, his legacy will live on for the next 50 years, or more. Pretty much everything that Obama accomplished has already been wiped out.

If they pull that stunt then there will be 20 appointments when the Dems get their next at bat. Decorum be dammed.

What stunt? The senate calls the shots on Supreme Court nominations. End of story. Supreme Court Justices serve for life. There would have to be 20 Justices die or step down for there to be 20 nominations. The GOP has been selecting fairly young conservative Justices. The odds are in favor of them ruling the court for a very, very long time now.

The cap of how many supreme justices is dependent upon decorum. That seal was broken under Mitch and no one is fooled by him running out the clock under Obama. If they lose the senate I guarantee they will stuff the court with as many seats as they deem required to take back control.

Sad but true. There’ll be a new justice by Tuesday because Moscow Mitch has less honour than the Romulans.

How quickly you forget Merrick Garland.

Mitch McConnell Mitch McConnell:
The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice, therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.

Mitch McConnell Mitch McConnell:
I can now confidently say the view shared by virtually everybody in my conference, is that the nomination should be made by the president the people elect in the election that’s underway right now. I believe the overwhelming view of the Republican Conference in the Senate is that this nomination should not be filled, this vacancy should not be filled by this lame duck president…The American people are perfectly capable of having their say on this issue, so let’s give them a voice. Let’s let the American people decide. The Senate will appropriately revisit the matter when it considers the qualifications of the nominee the next president nominates, whoever that might be.

Mitch McConnell Mitch McConnell:
The Senate will continue to observe the ‘Biden rule’ so that the American people have a voice in this momentous decision on who to name to the court

Mitch McConnell Mitch McConnell:
It seems the more we hear from Democrats about the Supreme Court the more we’re reminded by comparison of how reasonable and common-sense the Republican position is today.

Mitch McConnell Mitch McConnell:
One of my proudest moments was when I looked at Barack Obama in the eye and I said, ‘Mr. President, you will not fill this Supreme Court vacancy,

Keep voting in trash though.
