Strutz Strutz:
$1:
Dallas resident DeAndre Upshaw said it was "very shocking" when he opened his latest electricity bill.

"While I'm trying to get gas and groceries and make sure that my pipes don't explode, the last thing I'm thinking about is a $7,000 bill from my utility company," Upshaw told CNN's Fredricka Whitfield via Skype Saturday.

As Texas struggles to recover from a deep freeze that has killed dozens, some customers in Texas like Upshaw are facing unprecedented price hikes in their energy bills as a result of the recent snow storm. Texas officials say they are investigating.

I thought at first that this $7K bill must be an error in reporting.

A quick search brought up this article as well as others.
$1:
“My savings is gone,” said Scott Willoughby, a 63-year-old Army veteran who lives on Social Security payments in a Dallas suburb. He said he had nearly emptied his savings account so that he would be able to pay the $16,752 electric bill charged to his credit card — 70 times what he usually pays for all of his utilities combined. “There’s nothing I can do about it, but it’s broken me.”

Kind of explains the intense level of brainwashing Americans are subjected to in order to maintain such a disgusting level of corporate greed.
Kept it going 100 years beyond it's time even with a constitutionally armed populace. And they eventually did storm Congress for all the wrong reasons

At this point why do they not just say this is what the people of Texas voted for?

Because that isn't what they think they voted for. Can't have them facing reality with re-election looming!

Normal people wouldn't have put 'friends' in that position.

Watch the video. Texas offers people a market rate billing option, but doesn't explain what that actually means.

WTF @ wholesale pricing?! Even I know how brutal that can turn! The fact that Texas is always willing to tell everyone how awesome they are, only to be brought to their knees by a 'winter storm' that would make any Canadian laugh should show the world the sad state of affairs in the Lone Star state.

Truly maddening.

Texans and their 'freedom'. Free to go bankrupt because you didn't read the fine print. Freedom to freeze, because gas companies didn't invest in cold weather prevention to keep the lights on.

It sounds like Texans might also be free to broil this summer if Texas gets a major heatwave.

$1:
June 14 (Reuters) - Texas's embattled electrical grid operator warned residents to cut electricity use "as much as possible" for the rest of this week, as several days of heat over 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32°C), combined with generation outages, could strain the grid even before summer officially starts.
