Well, if it hadn't been turned into a weapon of abuse (and tyranny) by its proponents, activists, and allies it wouldn't have become a term of abuse.

Wokeness is now speech & thought control. Utter any dissent, or even make the smallest (alleged) mistake and you will be punished by relentless and merciless attacks on your reputation, character, and career. You will be harassed & stalked online by zealots, and even threatened in person as it gains intensity & strength. You will be shown no mercy, not even if you break under the stress and issue an apology, which is something you shouldn't have had to do in the first place. It's a social system, minus the guillotine, that the likes of Robespierre would have been proud of. It's McCarthyism from the left. When a decade-old tweet or forum post or Facebook comment gets dug up to existentially annihilate someone who said something "wrong" then it's identical to what Tailgunner Joe & Roy Cohn were doing with the power of HUAC - the destruction of the individual, done simply because they could.

And whatever wokeness began as is now irrelevant. A teaching & learning opportunity previous to it being appropriated by humourless & pitiless fanatics? Maybe. All it is now is the equivalent of putting thumbscrews on someone who has no hope of fighting back at all because, somehow, the torturers managed to get the backing of the state, the universities, the media, and cowardly corporatism behind them. It's just bullying used to make any potential outliers conform to someone else's idea of what is socially acceptable. Wokeness is great for creating drones. Creating thinking people though? Hah! It's as good at that as the book-burning the right wing chuds like to do.
