I think this paragraph from the article summarizes my feelings:

$1:
But if anything, the experience of the Garcia family is a depressing reminder of the perils of modern parenting, where boundaries and guidelines are so often thrown out of the window and where allowing a child to do whatever they want is somehow seen as the action of a loving, trusting parent.

Amen.

Having been single for many years, I always made it a point to date only women who were born before I went through puberty... That way there was no possibility that the relationship was incestuous ;-)

Personally I think that she is adamently in love, and he is just having fun! I have a 16 year old son, and I see the girls his age that he hangs with and / or brings home. While they are cute and sometimes attractive physically, they are annoying as hell! I'd go NUTS if I had to actually live with one.

As for this gent however, he actually moved in!!!! C'mon... you're 36 years old and you're living with your 16 year old girlfriends parents??? Under any other condition, he would be called "LOOSER!!!"

Oh Good God ... What the heck is happening these days?

I remember my mum being mortified when my little sister tried doing the same thing when she was 17 and the guy was almost 40. She put an immediate stop to it. There was no pleasantry or "move in with us" ... nope, I believe there was an introduction to a work-boot and a protective step-father's fist.

It might not be illegal, but it is certainly immoral - isn't it? I mean. Gosh. That's disgusting!

I don't know that I could agree with the comment that she is legitimately in love. 16 year-olds don't fall in love, they fall into infatuation. And this situation is dangerous. I was there, I know ... Teen girls are unstable at best, and when his fun is over and this guy looks for something more mature the repercussions will not be pretty.

Teenage fallout is ugly, ugly, ugly.

But good luck to them - I hope they know what they're doing.

This is a delicate situation, trust me folks, theres not much you can do as my sis found out with her 15 year old daughter.Even the cops cant do anything.

It's sick and brings out the "ewwwwww" factor. This guy tells my sis that he wont touch her untill she turns 16,enough to make anyone want to kill the guy.

He doesnt exactly come to the door to pick her up but ya,their going out and nothing we can legally do.Any interferance(as my mom found out) will just alienate her further and give her a reason to be with him.The guys older then 30 and has a freaking kid out of wedlock with some other 18 year old for fucks sake.I know a few thousand people in town here so not much happens that we dont know about, thats all you can do.

Thats disgusting. The man has no shame and I can only hope for your nieces sake she is doing it for shock value.

She deserves a fresh life on her own, to go off to Uni and meet a boy her own age rather then hitching herself to some low-life bastard.

Personally, the first time I lived in England I was 22 and there was a 15 year old who hung around with the 17 year olds that frequented the bar I worked at. (Its an English thing). She wanted an "adult" relationship with me but I just couldn't do it knowing I was going home in a few months.

He should know better and he is scum. Pure and simple scum.

Thats what my sis worries about, her getting knocked up and missing out on her youth.
She's very mature for her age hanging around with sled-heads and being sponsered by Yamaha at about 6 years old,she was also in a few snowmobile magazines so has seen lots for her age. But shes still just a teen.

She is going to lose out financially as she now isnt getting a used car for her 16th unless she pays for it.Other perks have been cut.Think mom cut her out of her will.

The fact that you were going home, was the only thing that discouraged/dissuaded you from having a relationship with a 15 yr. old, when you were 22?
