Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
It's a Canadian Press Mafia tradition.

Well I guess one man's pessimist is another's optimist.

"I think human behaviour drives recessions and recoveries, and confidence in the future drives human behaviour," said Liberal MP John McCallum, a former chief economist for the Royal Bank of Canada."

a stupid comment from a stupid Liberal, he's probably back on the bottle

I'm sorry, I'm with the Ridenrain on this one. I prefer a frank assessment, "pessimistic" though it may be, to a bunch of blithe jingoism.

Rather than telling me what I said, let me tell you what I meant.

If you follow the news, Harper was slagged by the media and many here for not commenting on the severity of the problem. This is really his first warning and comments on caution and the media and Libs are slagging him for that now.

The Canadian media mafia has shown they will twist anything they can to get that "gotcha" moment.

Negative. It's not the "Media", the articles' critics are not "Media" at all. In fact, this article gives an opposing view as well. It seems you're quick to slag the Media, even when they are simply doing their job correctly.

The whole "should people talk pessimisticly" has always been a touchy subject. Whom ever speaks that way first gets criticized by their Opponents as "making things worse". Doesn't matter which side of the Political spectrum, what's "frank talk" and what's "making things worse" depends on who speaks first. The last Election had Dion beinhg criticized for doing it, now it's Harper.

I prefer frank talk, but certainly sometimes it can make a situation worse. Like the article points out though, most people are very aware of how dire the situation is, so I doubt things could be made worse with such talk.

Well, it's not just the Canadian media. That is the media in general.

I'm a Liberal and I will never slag a PM--Tory or otherwise--for speaking frankly instead of just a bunch of happy sounding gibberish (likeo Gordo here in BC).

not to mention about two months ago the liberals and the NDP were slamming Harper and his government for being to optimistic about the economy.

This is another example of the opposition opposing just for the sake of it.

what a load of bullshit, as previously said Harps was pilloried during the election and coalition crisis for being too optimistic about the economy!

Is it pessimism or is it just being realistic? Prepare for the worst and maybe it won't be as bad as we think it will.

Better to tell us what to expect, then whitewash it and find out later anyway.
