Banning driving the direction they're heading. Pretty soon we'll all be strapped in to transit evhicles wearing helmets and seat belts, being driven at 5 mph by unionized drivers. But we'll be safe, and that's the important thing, right? I mean, wouldn't you rather be safe than free? Sure you would.

Law written by women. None that I know have ever figured out that if I open my window a crack and have a smoke, all the smoke goes out the window, or she opens hers a crack and has a smoke it all goes out her window,
NONE have noticed if you both have a smoke and both open your window, it just blows the smoke around in the car. No matter how many times you grunt, toss your smoke away and close your window.
How long until they fine you for farting in your own car?

Do more dependency on foreign oil, car accidents, speeding or parking tickets, etc...

Are you going to come give me a ride to work in your rickshaw?

Far as I know farting won't hurt your lungs.

This is a stupid law and leaves no room for common sense, and I'll tell you why.

In Ontario a couple of weeks ago a sharp eyed police officer noticed an evil man smoking in a car with a teenager. (I can't recall if the teen was related to the man or how old the teen was, but 15 years old seems to ring a bell)So officer Eagle Eye pulls the car over a proceeds to inform the driver he is being charged with smoking in a vehicle with "child" present and will be written up for his fine. While writting the man up the teen steps out of the vehicle and LIGHTS UP A SMOKE! 8O

It seems it's not illegal for the teen to smoke but it is for the man who's driving the teen.

The difference is in the choice. The 15 year old chose to smoke. Other kids didn't choose to drive around in a car with a parent who is smoking.

In this situation would you, if you were the officer, still fine the driver? I know what my answer is.

I don't know. On the surface, it seems silly, but... it's the law.

If he gets off, then the next thing you know, you'll have parents instructing their younguns to light up if they get pulled over.

Slippery slope. :D

But officers use discretion all the time with the law. I know around where I live there is an unwritten rule that the police will give a 5-15 km/h cushion before pulling you over for speeding. Shouldn't they be writing tickets for everything 1 km/h or more over the posted speed limit?

As for slippery slope, what will you say when the write the law that punishes you for smoking in your own house if children are present. An idea that has been put out by various groups and politicians. I honestly think that there will be that law someday, just as I once believed that their would never be a law against smoking in public or in your own vehicle. Now that's a slippery slope I fear!

The slippery slope comment was tongue in cheek.

I agree - I probably wouldn't have written the ticket either.

The cocky kid would have pissed me off though.

If I was the driver I would hand the ticket right to kid! PDT_Armataz_01_35

No.... not ALL the smoke goes out the window.

Yes, every single tiny little bit goes out the window. As long as it's the one beside the smoker and only open a crack.

"Health Canada says merely opening a window won't clear the smoke from a car, and smoking while kids aren't in the vehicle isn't acceptable either.

"Extensive studies have shown there is no level of ventilation that will eliminate the harmful effects of second-hand smoke, and opening a window can result in air flow back into the car, which may cause the smoke to be blown directly back at non-smokers," Health Canada says. "

Health Canada ...bunch of friggen rightwingers
