I knew it, 10 years for first degree murder, and only 6 of that will be in jail. More needs to be done to punish these pukes.

$1:
As a young offender, M.T. faces a maximum sentence of 10 years — six in jail and four under supervision in the community.

Thats the worst she can get, now I ask whats your point?

The prosecution will try to have her sentenced as an adult....it's in the article as well...

Prosecutors immediately said they would ask for an adult sentence for the 17-year-old girl, known only as M.T.

I doubt she will get sentenced as an adult, seeing she was tried as a minor.

Do not think if she gets an adult sentence that means much of anything. Because she was only 14 at the time she committed the offence, even if she gets "life" as an adult, she'll only have to serve 5-7 years (less dead time) before she's eligible for parole (which she'll surely get.) (See Criminal Code section 745.1)

So she'll be on parole for many years but not in prison.

All hail Canada's justice system!

It's pathetic. Are we ever going to have a government stop being so pussy and change the damn Young Offenders Act? Planning murders like this one should automatically be considered an "adult" crime. At 15 she knew exactly what she was fucking doing. She was smart enough to have the boyfriend to do the deed on her behalf so that if the shit hit the fan she could play the "innocent young girl influenced by the older man" role.

$1:
"I found it very hard to believe that a 15-year-old girl was able to orchestrate that crime," he told reporters.

yes, girls are made from sugar and spice...dumb comment from a cop who has obviously never known a 15 year old girl with jealousy issues.

It gets worse. Under the YCJA, originally murder was a presumptive offence - meaning if you were convicted of it, it was an adult sentence unless you could show why it was inappropriate.

The supreme court of canada in a case called R v DB from last summer struck down those provisions and said they're unconstitutional. In fact, they declared as a matter of constitutional law (!!!!) young persons are entitled to a presumption of diminished moral culpability for their actions.

It's just so unbelievable.

Yet at the same time believable in a world where no one is responsible for what they do anymore. It's always someone else's fault. And those in authority uphold this.
