This is it for some of the requirements: ?!?!?!?!?!

Holy shit that is easy....

# 1.5 Mile (2400 metre) run in 10:15 or less
# 31 consecutive push-ups
# 33 consecutive sit-ups
# 8 consecutive chin-ups
# 450 metre shuttle run

That doesn't sound like more than I had to do in the Reserves as a Light Infantryman, I suspect that to get into the trade you realistically have to do do much better, i.e. they only take the top x % of recruits.

$1:
675 metre continuous swim in 20 minutes or less
The swim test is always the hardest from me, probably the only thing that discourages me from looking into it further. I guess I never develeoped a good technique. Wonder if they have any non-swimming SAR Techs?

Those are the minimum requirements to get into the military.

Our ship's divers need higher fitness scores than that, and it's not nearly as taxing as sar tech training.

I'm not saying you can't do it. I'm just saying, they tend to weed out the people who shouldn't be there. So, it's not as easy as they make it sound.

I remember when I was younger and I was all hyped up about being a sartech, I know back then the requirements were far greater. It was basically the Canadian parallel of being a navy seal in the US.

Wrong, fitness for recuits is much lower now. I think all you need is 10 sit ups and 10 push ups, and a level 5 or 6 on the shuttle run. To graduate you need to pass a CF Express test but to join you dont have to be in any shape really.

I swim a minimum an hour before work everyday....I have to for surfing and diving. You could learn it...just need to train thats all.

I think it would be an awesome thing...but I wonder about basic, I am not one to be bitched at without getting into a confrontation.

Just picked up a parttime welding job though...thinking of going back into that again XD

I'm imagining you as Drew Barrymore in Charlies Angels when during the opening character montage she punches out the drill Sgt yelling at here.

My own vocation is always advertising for recruits in the military but I'm kinda like you with regards to getting yelled at.

As long as you don't disrespect the rank you'll make it through training.

Swimming would be the easiest part for me. I smashed my left shoulder, now the geometry is all f*cked up and chinups do not work for me anymore. Eight would be about all I could do. Can still do pullups... maybe they'd let me substitute

If I ever get banged up out in the bush and need a SRT I sure hope he/she is stronger than those minimum requirements. You'd have to be able to do a couple of hundred push-ups and sit-ups to drag my fat ass to safety. 8O
