Well this hits a little close to home seeing as I have had to draw blood from people in police custody.

I think the cop went too far, and the insistence of “admitting” the alleged drunk first was pretty silly too.

I’ll call it a tie!

People who have badges frequently overestimate their actual authority.

You can't draw blood on just anybody.. as an employee of the hospital, she was right he had to be a patient and to be that he had to be admitted... another case of cops powertripping...see it all the time.

Isn't this a US cop on a US nurse? Is this not a Canadian forum?

I'm sure we can find a few Mexican sob stories too. So what?

I have had blood work done at several different hospitals. Never required to be admitted for such!

Some states and cities are actually training their officers to draw suspect's blood themselves without involving an ER. Phoenix, AZ and Idaho are a couple that I can think of off the top of my head.

Chicago PD is usually down near the bottom of the nation-wide list as far as police quality and honesty is concerned. You practically have to go to New Orleans to find worse policing than Chicago. I've talked to people who go for help to the state troopers or the University of Chicago police force (which, given the size of the campus and it's near-ghetto proximity, has the second or third largest PD in all of Illinois) instead of the city cops because the city PD is so pathetic and corrupt. They've had a terrible black eye for decades, even before the Al Capone era, and it lokks like it'll probably never get any better for them.

If you have been convicted of drinking and driving before OR refuse a breath sample, in some states the police have the right to take you to the nearest hospital and draw blood (a good friend of mine is a sheriff deputy in the states and we were just talking about this over the summer). Personally I would have just taken the suspect to another hospital.

That depends on what you mean by admitted. Hospitals have outpatient services where you drop by with your req, get your blood drawn and then leave. Thats a form of admittance. In this case the police brought him to the ER and they do have rules about such things.

Dude, you seriously can't do any better that ?

You're losing your touch...

Just fess up and admit there are lots of bad cops around,
and yes, they tarnish it for the few good ones.

Dude, out of the 70,000 cops in Canada can you tell me how many are bad? Back up your statements with some facts.

Idiot cops in Indiana don't make cops in Toronto or anywhere else in Canada, bad cops.
Different country, different laws and all that, dude.
