Cameron says he expects to learn more about the issues this weekend when he meets with the secretariat of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York.

That's the way to do it - first slam the situation, then learn more about it.

He wants to spend oil sands money on wind turbines. Brilliant.

Then how about JC (that's the moniker he should adopt; it'd put him at least on par with Jesus Christ in terms of monogrammed towels and such) agree to use some of his gazzillions of dollars to the feed tar-sands workers his idea would unemploy? He could cut another cheque to prop up the TSX which'll take a dive into the shitter if the tar-sands were shut down. Then there's the business of the Canadian dollar. Maybe he can offer 10% return on "JC Bonds and GICs" to prevent the dollar from dropping to $0.50 US. It's better to keep your mouth shut and be suspected of being an idiot than to open your mouth and confirm others' suspicions, isn't it JC?

Great, another celebrity that thinks their opinion means something.

Interesting how everyone dislikes the Alberta Oil Sands, but never hesitate to fill up their big SUV's and Hummers.

How do they know where the fuel originated from?

I'd like to know what fuels Jim's personal fleet of vehicles.

Why are we spending billions on the oil sands? He makes it sound like the government is paying to extract the oil.

Also cars do NOT run off of wind turbines, nor do planes, trains, freighters, farm equipment, backup generators, or military vehicles etc

He is known to have a private jet and he also owns a former America's Cup yacht in addition to a luxury yacht. I suppose he can argue the sailing ship is mostly green. At least he lives in a very modest house...

Report calls on Ottawa to end oil sands subsidies

The tax break, estimated to be worth $1.4 billion annually, has been a point of growing controversy as oil-sands operators reap record revenues. Known as the "accelerated capital cost allowance," it was introduced when the oil sands technology was still considered experimental.

I sure don't see why we're giving the oil industry tax breaks.

Oh yea I forgot those were in place. Are they still in place now though since that article 3 years old.

I remember the tax breaks were put in when it cost more to extract one barrel of oil than it was worth on the market. So the government made that tax break which made it cheaper for companies to keep putting money into the oil sands than to pull out.

Ya, that's a rather dumb statement. That said, we can improve the CO2 footprint of the Tar Sands by using Nuclear Power in the extraction process.
