desertdude desertdude: Only plus I can think of they have a big 4x4 offroading scene, but did I memtion how expensive cars were and how they drive on the wrong side ! ![]() I dunno about 4x4 offroading but there is a pretty large rally racing culture here, plus we drive on the proper side of the road ![]() |

Oz is great. Much easier going than Canada, less into political correctness. The Aussie economy is beating the shit out of Canada at the moment, and last I heard, the Aussie dollar is now worth more than ours (always used to be less). If you live in a bigger city, the selection of fresh fruits and veggies makes Canada's look sick, especially in our winter. If you like desert and 4 wheeling, there's plenty of that too. I considered moving there at one time. Cost of living is higher, but I bet housing prices are way lower than in major Canadian cities. You're closer to Asia, especially Indonesia, so Aussies worry to some degree with being overrun - that's why they're so much tougher on refugees than we are. They had a huge influx of Lebanese and I guess other middle eastern peoples, which did wonders for the food. At one time Aussie food was worse than English grub, but now, in big cities you can get decent stuff. They've had their problems with Muslims and various race battles. Being less pc, the white majority didn't quietly just accept it and fought back - physically. Oz used to be known as being very racist, but with all the immigration that's changed. They still take no guff tho - a govt minister said that if Muslims didn't want to integrate with Australian culture they should just go home. I believe he was cheered, not booed. (This would never happen in Canada). For me these are positives, you may see them in a different light. The accent is fucking atrocious - sounds like a squeaky door hinge, but you sorta get used to it with time. Aussie men will give you the shirt off their back when sober, but try to fight you for yours when drunk. And they like to drink. My impression is that Oz is more of a welfare state than Canada - lots of people I met were on disability, which paid enough for them to have a cheap car and travel around surfing and partying. People told me it's very easy to get jobs for foreigners because Australian employers prefer them because they work harder. I would probably choose Brisbane over Sydney unless you like big cities. But Sydney has lots to offer. I've heard Melbourne is supposed to be very nice - cultural uni type town, but I never made it down there. The 10 year drought is over for now, so things are greening up again. But if global warning keeps going, Oz could be in serious water trouble. And that's no fun, and something Canada doesn't have to worry about, unless we sell it all to the US first. |

The Brits sent their criminals to a tropical land and decided that snow covered Canada was the place to settle ![]() LOL ! That reminds me of story of a tourist I had once. Tall built up brown dude( Looked like the rock Dwyane Johnson ). I guessed he was from down under from his accent, the I though he was Maori. When I asked him if he was, he said no, he was Indian. Anyways we got talking and he said in the begining some of his mates would poke fun at him for where he was from. And he said he would always reply, well atleast I came in a plane with all due respect, unlike you folk who came shackled in convict ships ! and that would shut them up promptly ![]() |

Most probably will be Sydney or Adelaide and need to be close to big bussiness due to professional reasons. I can't believe most are suggesting Oz.....seems like you don't want me there ![]() JK, really appreciate the input in this thread. Cheers, you guys do rock ![]() |
