that is one thing I am grateful about, the Conservatives thanks to the overall more liberal leaning of the country are not like the Republicans in the US.

"Well America's got one of those. We call it... Canada" i.e. older brother who lives in the attic that makes grunting and animal noises

Gee. While I really hate that our country always has to be introduced in such a condescending way that isn't even funny anymore, I guess it's cool that he even mentioned it.

Rick Mercer, This Hour and mock the US nightly so I wouldn't get upset about Canada getting laughed at once or twice a year. Don't dish it if you can't take it.

No, the odd brother in the attic being Canada was funny.

This was freaking hilarious.

Lighten up people, one thing that separates us from the people we laugh at is that we can laugh at ourselves.

Take a joke.

Good point. The old talking to Americans segment comes to mind.

The difference is that at the end of the day, even if most Canadians don't like the States, they have a good knowledge and even a certain respect. Americans already know absolutely nothing about Canada, and the only medium still available to teach them is television, which can't seem to treat the subject without mocking it entirely.

It's one thing to mock or satirise something you know, it's another to mock something you know nothing about. I know for a fact that in general, Americans know absolutely nothing about Canada, even in bordering regions. I mean, what the hell. If your own state borders the goddamn country, how can you know nothing at all about it? Take a day trip, for Christ's sake. It's there, it always has been.

MacDonaill, that doesn't change the fact that it's still freaking hilarious.

Man up, learn to laugh. We know what American say isn't true, learn to laugh at their jokes. Much of the time they are pretty funny.

I understand not wanting your country mocked, but really, aren't we used to it? That's the punchline. That Canada is a nation to be mocked. Why? Because we don't care. We laugh too. We love the jokes. Ever hear the term "Soviet Canuckistan"? The term has been mangled since it was first used by a right-wing Anti-Canadian American commenter, and now has only comedic value.

We are a nation of comedians. What separates us from others is that we don't get our underwear in a bunch if some says some joke about us.

And Jon Stewart knows plenty about Canada, he comes up here some times as a stand-up comedian, he loves Montreal and Toronto, and he pays attention to our news.

It was just a joke. So smile! No one was harmed.

And it was freaking funny.

I understand what you're saying. But I still don't think it was hilarious, that's all. Mildly comedic, I'm willing to go there, but not hilarious. There are cleverer ways to poke fun at Canada. And besides, making it seem ironic that we're even a country has been done to death already. We need a fresh way to make fun.
