It was a very intense game England v Scotland. I called it Pete though when I said he'd get injured in the first 20 mins! LOL I hear it required 14 stitches!

Did you see the chat between Johnny and Chris Cusiter when Chris congratulated Johnny? Chris said to Johnny, sorry about your lip and Johnny said it was all him lol.

That try should not have been awarded. I think its ridiculous that the video referencing is shoddy! Is that how it's going to be for the World Cup?

Parks CANNOT play anymore!! God I hate that man. I hope Hadden takes him out.

Ireland v Wales today should be great!!

Italy just got steamrolled!! They don't seem to be improving at all...

Ohhh you can't say Wilko got injured! All he did was headbutt someone's elbow!!!!! Johnny is a very likable lad like Jason Robinson, the pair of them are honest as hell and Johnny just looked more than a little embarrassed when he got awarded that try.

England were excellent, the interesting thing was that it just shows what was missing from England for the past three years, a decent back three. Farrell was quiet but he was always looking for work and worked damn hard for his pay.

I felt Scotland fought hard but Parks & Henderson really do need to go. There are some players on the Scotland bench like Dewey who should have started and would have posed England more problems. Scotland had the pace but they just didn't have the backs to exploit England's lack of fitness or pace!

As for the shoddy Refereeing, at least you guys even go to the Video Ref, in England vs Ireland 2005, when they went over and were buried in a dogpile and the ball could NOT (repeat) NOT be seen and the ref should have gone to the video ref....he just awarded the try. Now THAT is intensely frustrating :P

Really felt sorry for Italy but they had an easy problem. If they had scored those two tries and kicked their penalties, France wouldn't have been as supremely confident as they were going into the 2nd half. Pez kept kicking away possession and just gave France more excuses to come at them and it showed.

EDIT: actually, I'd like to award Italy:

Bugger me, what a turnaround by Scotland against Wales!! The Scottish pack just dominated Wales in the scrum and practically everywhere else as well! Godman performed well and Lamont finally found some form.

Okay, Scotland didn't score a try and it was a very messy win, but a win is a win and they did step up a gear to get it too!

Just in time for a new award too!

As for England, really disappointed. They really are not going to be able to compete with that kind of form when they visit Ireland and when France visit :(

Ireland VS England: game to be played at stadium where British soldiers killed 14

England's Irish history lesson

By Brendan Gallagher

17/02/2007

Image
The Six Nations Championship rugby game between Ireland and England on 24th February is to be played at the 82,000-seater Croke Park in Dublin. In 1920, when Ireland wanted to leave the Union, British soldiers killed 14 people here in revenge for an earlier IRA attack that killed 14 British secret agents. Ireland eventually left the Union in 1922 (except what is now Northern Ireland, which wanted to remain). The Ireland rugby team are only playing at this stadium whilst their stadium - Landsdowne Road - is rebuilt. Previously, foreign sports (especially British sports such as football or rugby) were not allowed to be played in this stadium, only Ireland's national sports of Gaelic Football and Hurling.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conor O'Shea, the former Ireland full-back and captain, has been brought in to address the England team at a special meeting on Monday about Croke Park and the significance of next Saturday's first game between Ireland and England at the Gaelic Athletic Association citadel.

Image
The history man: Ireland's Conor O'Shea

O'Shea, whose father Jerome was a Gaelic football legend and won All-Ireland finals playing for Kerry at Croke Park in 1953, 1955 and 1959, has been asked by England coach Brian Ashton to put the RBS Six Nations Championship game in historical perspective and explain the strong emotions that could be unleashed.

On Nov 21, 1920, 14 Irish citizens, including the Tipperary captain Mick Hogan, were shot dead by British forces on the field of play at Croke Park in an act of reprisal for the earlier assassination of 14 British secret agents by the IRA on what has become known as Bloody Sunday (not to be confused by the Bloody Sunday of 1972 when the British shot dead 26 Irish civil rights protesters).

The Croke Park killings only underlined the GAA's determination never to allow alien "British" sports such as rugby and football at the venue but the move towards peace in Ireland has seen many barriers come down and last Sunday the GAA staged the first game of rugby at their 82,300 capacity home, against France.

"This is obviously going to be a very special match given all the circumstances and Brian Ashton asked me if I could call into the team hotel in Bath and tell the England lads all about it," said O'Shea, who won 35 Ireland caps and is now the Rugby Football Union's National Academy manager.

"In one way England must treat it as just another game against world-class opposition but it will be more than just another game for Ireland and it's brilliant that Brian wants England to understand the background," O'Shea added. "In Ireland we learn the story from an early age but I will be brushing up on my history over the weekend to make sure I get no facts wrong."

It is also understood that the RFU and the Irish Rugby Football Union are considering suggestions that the two teams walk out together next Saturday night - as they did on the famous occasion in 1973 when the England team ignored IRA death threats to play Ireland at Lansdowne Road after Wales and Scotland had declined to play there.

Rugby roundup:

Currently France are in the lead, followed by Ireland, England, Italy, Scotland and Wales.

Ireland won the triple crown yesterday, winning 19-18 against Scotland. Some controversy came out of that with O'Sullivan claiming that O'Gara was deliberately choked, but I think it's hogwash. I was at the game and no one saw the said incident. He was at the bottom of the ruck and it's easy to get crushed down there. I think he just had his air supply cut off.

Italy pulled off its second win in a row against Wales. Wales are looking at getting the Wooden Spoon next weekend. It could very well be Scotland but...we'll see.

Today is England v France, the biggest match so far as it's going to determine the outcome of the Nations.

England won today against France in a very good match. 26-18 was the final score.

This has blown it wide open. England, Ireland and France are now tied with 6 pts apiece. It all comes down to next weekend folks!

Here's the blip from the Irish Times. Eddie O'Sullivan is so full of the crap his eyes are brown. Doesn't know who the Scottish Culprit was, yet it was Nathan Hines who tackled Ronan AROUND THE WAIST. Spoke to Frank Hadden last night but they didn't speak of the incident. Yeah whatever Eddie.

O'Sullivan refuses to name culprit

Sunday, March 11, 2007

Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan is still refusing to name the Scottish player he alleges tried to choke Ronan O'Gara during the closing moments of yesterday's Six Nations win at Murrayfield.

O'Gara lost consciousness as a result of the incident at the bottom of the ruck in Ireland's 19-18 win which clinched the Triple Crown. At the post-match press conference O'Sullivan claimed O'Gara had been deliberately assaulted but would not name names.

Despite chatting with his opposite number, Frank Hadden, at the post-match dinner, O'Sullivan has refused to change his stance.

Asked if he was prepared to identify the player, O'Sullivan said: "You should go along to the Scottish hotel and ask them - it's a simple solution. I spoke to Frank Hadden last night but it never came up in discussion. These things are never for discussion at social events.

"If you look at the front of the papers, something did happen. There is evidence that something happened. If nothing happened then maybe the person involved in the incident could come forward and explain what happened and we'd all be wiser, rather than me making accusations that everyone knows I can't substantiate.

"Maybe we're all wrong here, maybe it was a complete and utter accident, or he had nothing to do with anything, Ronan has the least amount of information - he went out like a light. If you look at the video he was kicking out, actually, and he was going blue.

"John Hayes spotted him immediately and put him into the recovery position. It's a very unfortunate incident and it's a pity it is overshadowing the game.

"It was a nasty enough incident - he could have died."

Asked why nobody seemed to come to O'Gara's aid, despite O'Sullivan's insistence that several players saw the incident, the Irish coach was bullish.

"So you're proposing that the Irish welly into the Scottish and punch somebody, when there's a guy on the ground not breathing?" he added. "You want to save the guy on the ground. It was over, Ronan was out on the ground when the guys realised what was wrong."

Despite the incident, O'Sullivan revealed his side had suffered no major injuries.

He said: "Brian O'Driscoll fell awkwardly on the shoulder that he had reconstructed, so it was quite sore last night, but these things can settle down in a day or two.

"Girvan Dempsey picked up a broken nose in the first half in a tackle, so I suppose his modelling career is over now. You had two very tired sides last night and we've got a lot bumps and bruises.

"This is the last week of the championship and ideally we'd like to go out tomorrow and start working towards Italy, but it could be counter-productive in terms of keeping the energy."

ENGLAND 26-18 FRANCE

HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!

Back to the drawing board, Frenchie.

If you think you can beat mighty England playing like that then think again. You showed more resistance and a greater never-say-die attitude during WWII than you did against England yesterday.
Get this - France's record winning margin against England at Twickenham is by just 8 points.

Although I noticed everyone on here has kept quiet about it.

Losers.

England to win the Six nations, like I said six months ago.

The so-called "Big Two" - France and Ireland - f**ked up badly at the weekend. Frenchie was slaughtered by the English and the Irish were very lucky to beat Scotland - 18-19 it finished, a team that England destroyed 42-20.

Paddy is probably the most inconsistent team in the tournament. It's another false dawn for Ireland and I can only see the World Champions England triumphing on March 17th - St Patrick's day - by thrashing Wales on the last day and winning the tournament.

Even if England don't win we probably have more to look forward to for the future. Again we have the makings of the best team in the world.

All right, all right, thats enough out of you GB.

Please control yourself on these rugby forums, I shan't tolerate another outburst like that and not only will I be forced to mod your posts, I will take further steps.

Now, can't we look forward to Super Saturday in peace?

P.s. I really liked how well Toby Flood and Shane Geraghty played and I am very pleased that Mike Catt is still kickin' it at 35! BIG Congratulations to Italy too who are the heroes of week 4 of the Six Nations!
