$1:
a U.S. government source said Iran is home to a little-known network of alleged al Qaeda fixers and "facilitators" based in the Iranian city of Zahedan, very close to Iran's borders with both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The source said the operatives serve as go-betweens, travel agents and financial intermediaries for al Qaeda operatives and cells operating in Pakistan and moving through the area.
They do not operate under the protection of the Iranian government, which has a generally hostile attitude towards Sunni al Qaeda militants, and which periodically launches crackdowns on the al Qaeda elements, though at other times appears to turn a blind eye to them.

Meh. Maybe. Maybe not.

Yes, of course, we can all see it now, Harper with a phone at each ear, asking Vic,
'when's the legislation coming'; and on the other, with the lead RCMP investigator,
'no no, don't arrest them now, arrest them next week... hmm, Monday's good.'

I imagine it's quite likely that CSIS and the RCMP have been aware of this plot for a while. I'm sure you don't have the requisite neurons to appreciate that these terrorism cases are usually the result of long-term intelligence and investigation, but I'm afraid that's the reality.

Maybe it's just a coincidence that the bill came through to a vote the same time as the arrests. Maybe not.

And I don't think this idea is confined to the political left. I actually got it from one of the more right-wing sites. It's the Iran-Al Qeada business. First off, I don't believe that there's much of an Al Qeada left anymore, if at all. And secondly, Al Qeada never had a presence in Iran until--well until a couple of days ago.

There's another forum I frequent from time to time and there's a whole shit-load of clueless Eurotrash there that keeps calling Canada a "police state".

Indeed. The Europeons tolerate a heck of a lot more 'police state' activities than do Canadians by a long shot.

Based on what some of my suppliers have been sending me...I can spell it either way and still get a lot of silicon and not a lot of alumin(i)um.

Go figure.

The timing seems convienient for a government looking into new anti-terror legislation. Just sayin.....

You're not the first person to say this - it's all over Twitter and Facebook too.

Jonny_C Jonny_C:
It would be pretty dumb for the RCMP to sing to that political tune, don't you think?

They have before, so why not now;

Show me a country with police on its currency and I will show you a police state.

You should learn the history of the RCMP (NWMP) and maybe then you'd understand why they are honored on our currency. Police state.... ...

Same here. I always order somewhere in the 5000 series as I anodise and dye most parts.

When I first ordered I had to explain what aluminium was.

Blowing up Trains in North America Isn't How Iran Does Business

Iran’s leaders have never shied away from supporting terrorism. Israelis living within range of Hezbollah and Hamas rockets, many provided by Iran (and according to some reports, operated by Iranian troops), can attest to that.
