No. That's false in this situation. The line is not truthfully "fine" between "creepy" and "Orwellian" here.

There is nothing 'Big Brother is watching' about a girl defending herself from a Kangaroo Court by exposing its excess to the public. Nor is there anything creepy about it.

What may be Orwellian is the power these officials think they have to persecute, stifle and shame on the grounds of wrong-think.

In fact, the Universities went beyond Orwellian here. This was downright Kafkaesque.

She was defending herself in a Kangaroo court type setting. If you're the one being attacked in something like that and you're not taping it you're an idiot.

OK, let’s start at the other end - what sort of meetings would you not record in your place of work? I have to meet a lot of people in the run of a week and speak frankly to some of them. It looks like we have to assume we are being recorded all the time now.

Snowden exposed the abuse of surveillance programs by NSA employees who were reading ex's emails, social media profiles etc and people don't have a problem with that but they have a problem with this young woman covering her ass and exposing a growing problem in Canadian Universities? [huh]

The ones where you plan to do something you don't want recorded.

Yes, you do.

And if you are recorded and you're not doing anything wrong then you can't get caught.

Yes, because this exposed the leftists as the bullying, vindictive tyrants that they are and now there MUST be retaliation!

I understand why she felt she had to do it but is nobody troubled by this at all?

Not really. If constant recording is the price of stopping abuse then so be it. Criminals and bullies aren't going to stop their behaviour by appealing to them on a moral level because they have no moral core to appeal to at all. If a recording is what ends up putting a halt to them then that's just the way it is.

Yes, I am very troubled that the University thinks any discussion can be 'toxic'; that there is even a debate about standard English pronouns, and that there is even a debate in University about allowing free thought.

The other side strikes back!

Egghead responds with baffling essay comprised one-hundred percent of weasel words, including lionizing of anti-white Muslim speech nazi!

http://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/laurier- ... -1.4414696

LGBTOMGWTFBBQ campus community goes for broke, re-enforces victim status against the "violence of words"!

http://calgaryherald.com/news/canada/ca ... 34d2d4afde

SUGGESTED SOLUTION: shut all the non-STEM university faculties permanently, put all the humanities faculty that promote these ideas on a giant rocket and shoot it into the sun, send all the kids who were drifting into womyn/gay/gender studies to computer/trade school instead or draft them into the army.

Apply that to other places of work for a moment e.g. hospitals. We already have all sorts of pics on Facebook that violate the privacy of patients.

The PC movement in universities is ridiculous but I can hold that idea in my head at the same time as wondering about a nation of Little Brothers and Sisters recording constantly and sometimes illegally.

Clarify your opposition after another family with a helpless relative in a nursing home successfully records the nursing staff physically abusing their family member and gives the evidence to the press who expose the abusive and criminal bullying activity. :|

As I wrote earlier, it's one case to record your own surroundings in the event of a he said/she said situation. It's quite another for the state or big corporations to do it, and keep track of and analyze the results for unknown purposes.

It's also sad that sometimes people feel they have to record things in order to be sure of just consequences. I've never felt I needed to protect myself from my co-workers.

This is the Left's hypocrisy even when they're eating their own.

Like the U.S nursing home where a WW2 Vet was dying and the staff was laughing which was caught on video.

NOBODY would object to that but it has gone way beyond that now. Take, for example, Facebook images of patients that include other people and even other patients.

Recordings in the hospital setting can easily break laws and hospital guidelines on confidentiality and privacy.

If you've never felt that way then you're one of the few lucky ones. IMO the workplace, with it's runaway epidemic of bullying and backstabbing, is one of the best illustrations of the rapidly degrading condition of humanity.
