+5 for being the only person so far to actually ready my comment and comprehend it without jumping to a totally emotional conclusion.
We shouldn't have to like your leader to not be treated like shit. That's not how allies work.
The converse of this is that
we should not be treated like shit because you don't like who we voted for as our leader.
Yet since November 9, 2016 I've been treated like shit by too many people because of who I voted for as my President.
Some of those people are on this very site and lately some of them react to my every post with a seething and frothing hatred that's frequently accompanied by deeply personal insults.
Bootlegga, while not supporting my comment, at least bothered to stop for a moment and comprehend what I wrote instead of going off on some knee-jerk tantrum against me.
Thus we get to the topic of allies.
While Canada and the USA are still allies it is very clear that JT and DJT are not.
And JT is of a mindset that it's okay to insult, mock, and ridicule President Trump because it's fashionable to do so in fashionable circles. And that's fine if he's a late night talk show host working the cocktail party circuit.
But not when he's the leader of Canada and trying to maintain access to the US market for Canadian goods.
There's a huge downside for JT and Canada if there's a trade war. Canada now depends on US trade dollars while Canadian exports to the US can be replaced by domestic production now that we have a President who wants to restore our manufacturing sector and the supporting industries of mining, lumber, coal, and oil.
For President Trump there's nothing but an upside for him as he picks up union votes by repatriating union jobs to the USA. Even if the economy takes a hit he'll still be ever more popular as domestic production ramps up to serve the domestic market.
I know this grates on you and I'm sorry for this.
But the realities of the imbalances in our trade relationship are not so much reflected by the bad relationship between our leaders but by the lines of Canadians crossing the border and filling up their tanks at Costco and filling up their vehicles with dairy, clothing, and etc.
Not to mention the Canadians who've managed to make a living smuggling
fucking cheese across the border.
If anything is indicative of an aberration in the market it's a black market and when your black market is cheese you're doing it wrong.
