I'm with the rest of the world in thinking that claiming asylum is not a crime, and therefore no one needs to be locked up.
But you are against detaining people while the process is sorted.
Because we detain all our illegals, they dont get to roam wherever they want.
So, you think anyone who says 'asylum' should just get a free pass....
... and the free stuff, of course.....
to walk around and do stuff while the authorities sort out the claim ?
Don't do what you give Beave a finger wagging for. I wrote none of that.
Detention is appropriate while refugee or asylum claims are sorted out. But
criminal charges are punitive, because they require the family be separated while in
criminal detention. Don't charge them with something that isn't a crime, and separating the family is unnecessary.
Ironically, this policy might be making the US not a 'safe country' under the UNHCR, and might result in more refugee claims in Canada.
