You have a peaceful protest, people kneeling during the National anthem... and the President of the United States denounces it and pressures the NFL to squash it.
How is that free speech?
1. The NFL is a private company and the players do not enjoy freedom of speech while they're on the job. Neither do most people at their jobs, myself included.
2. The President is free to denounce the NFL.
3. The NFL's myriad financiers and government entities who are on the hook for billions in subsides for NFL stadiums have likely done far more to put an end to this kneeling shit than anyone else.
I agree with this. I may not agree with the stance the NFL takes, but if they take that stance, then the players are on the NFL's time.
However, I don't really give a shit. Football blows.
