Gee Marty, i'd be willing to overlook the sharpie thing if the US were to start pouring relief into Bermuda. I might even have something nice to say about SOPET if he were to turn on the aid too. And if Howdy Doody wants to back him up I'm sure I could spare a kind word for him as well.

As a Commonwealth member the Bahamas should be getting a wide range of help from the others. Hopefully Boris Johnson doesn't pull a Trump, say "Britain's doesn't have enough money to help!", and fuck them over for laughs the way the US did to Puerto Rico. At least, regardless of what happens, the Bahamians will hopefully be spared the obscene photo-op spectacle of some douche politician tossing paper towels into a crowd and then congratulating himself on what a hero he is.

Why ?
Bermuda is it's own sovereign country, should have it's own plans.
And it's a Commonwealth member, if anyone should be dumping money into relief,
don't you think it should be.. us ?

But again, sovereign country, some of the highest GDP in the area.
They should know better, it's not like hurricanes are a new thing.

Why is it so many people always slamming the USA all over the place,
but when something happens, oh they all come crying and shouting for money ?

That's all fine and dandy, but how in the hell do you 'plan' for a Category 5 hurricane? Do you not understand the devastation that kind of storm brings? The USA itself has 'plans' for when hurricanes hit the Eastern seaboard, but would be completely inefficient under an assault from a Category 5 storm, which would wipe ANYTHING out in it's path, as we have seen countless times already.

I've never been big on giving foreign aid out for no reason, but a C5 hurricane that almost wiped them off the map? That is as good a reason as any. Commonwealth countries should be stepping up, if not for the Commonwealth, then for helping other human beings in need.

All the GDP on the planet won't save you when Mother Nature gets pissed off.

If you have a better 'plan', we're all listening.

But guess who else is sending military and financial aide to the Bahamas? Call me sceptical and I hope I'm wrong but given China's track record of "helping" other countries who are in trouble for good will and perks, this aide may be nothing more than an attempt to either get under the skin of the Americans or garner a future military base that's less than 200 miles from the US mainland.

And, if I'm wrong about their intentions then, good on them for becoming part of the the world community and helping countries in crisis with no ulterior motives.

BTW I haven't heard of any official Canadian aide being sent to the Bahamas? Here's what I found on Google that's going so far.

The MV Asterix is back in Halifax and is designed for this type of scenario so why the hell haven't they loaded it up with relief supplies and sent them to the Bahamas yet. And, still no word about our DART team. They could be very beneficial in this situation given the number of dead and injured.

And in the latest in Sharpiegate news:

$1:
The parent agency of the National Weather Service said late Friday that President Trump was correct when he claimed earlier this week that Hurricane Dorian had threatened the state of Alabama.

The surprise announcement in an unsigned statement by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration essentially endorsed Trump's Sunday tweet saying that Alabama will "most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated."

After the president's tweet, the National Weather Service, in Birmingham, Ala., responded with its own tweet, saying, "Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian. We repeat, no impacts from Hurricane #Dorian will be felt across Alabama. The system will remain too far east."

The NOAA statement takes the National Weather Service to task, declaring, "The Birmingham National Weather Service's Sunday morning tweet spoke in absolute terms that were inconsistent with probabilities from the best forecast products available at the time."

The surprise statement on Friday has left meteorologists across the country baffled and upset.

Remembering that meteorologists are only one of two occupations along with politicians that can be wrong 100% and still keep their job, it is interesting to note that they now seem to think of themselves as infallible and apparently don't like to be criticised by anyone including the US Gov't.

So ih just to circle back on sharpie gate, once again we were proven to be right, Trump was proven to be lying and his apologists were proven to be played for fools.

In summary, released emails show:

1) Trump doctored a map with a sharpie and held a press conference in order to defend an innocent error in one of his tweets.
2) Then the Birmingham weather office had to tweet a correction to calm the panic Trump caused in Alabama.
3) Sharpiegate makes Trump a laughingstock as he ridiculously tries to double down with his homemade map.
4)Trump ordered the NOAA to issue a statement saying Trump was right in order to save his pride
5) Nobody at NOAA would sign the statement because it was so wrong so it went out to the public unsigned

What an insecure loser this president is.

$1:
NOAA emails show outrage and panic over Trump's false claims on Hurricane Dorian

Washington (CNN) — Scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration were upset and outraged last year over a controversial statement issued by the agency that appeared to side with President Donald Trump over its own forecasters on Hurricane Dorian, according to internal emails.

"For an agency founded upon and recognized for determining scientific truths, trusted by the public, and responsible in law to put forward important science information, I find it unconscionable that an anonymous voice inside of NOAA would be found to castigate a dutiful, correct, and loyal (National Weather Service) Forecaster who spoke the truth," Craig McLean, the acting chief scientist, wrote in a September 7 email to NOAA's top officials.

His email was among a trove of documents released Friday by NOAA as part of a Freedom of Information Act request from CNN and other news organizations.
The documents show the inner workings of the agency as it grappled with the President's false claims about Hurricane Dorian.

On September 1, Trump had falsely claimed on Twitter that Alabama "would most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated" by Hurricane Dorian.

The same day, the NWS' Birmingham, Alabama, branch tweeted, "Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian. We repeat, no impacts from Hurricane #Dorian will be felt across Alabama. The system will remain too far east."

During a September 4 Oval Office briefing, Trump escalated the controversy by displaying an apparently altered map of a NOAA forecast that extended Dorian's path into Alabama with a black marker.
The map prompted a flurry of media requests to NOAA, leading one agency spokesperson to write to his colleagues: "HELP!!!"

The documents released Friday also show that NOAA officials were aware that the map Trump used was "old and doctored to extend the core into Alabama."

"Yep, crazy," the NOAA's deputy undersecretary for operations wrote in a separate email chain on September 5.

On September 6, NOAA issued a public statement -- attributed to an unnamed NOAA spokesperson -- disavowing the Birmingham, Alabama, forecasters' report as "inconsistent with probabilities from the best forecast products available at the time."
The statement was met with swift backlash, as several wrote to criticize the statement as an antithesis to NOAA's mission of providing accurate and objective scientific information devoid of politics.

In an email, NWS' director lamented that "the mood out there is pretty ugly."

"What's next? Climate science is a hoax? Flabbergasted to leave our forecasters hanging in the political wind," McLean wrote to NOAA and NWS leadership. McLean publicly announced in September that he would investigate whether NOAA's backing of Trump over its own forecasters violated its scientific integrity policy.
"This statement is deeply upsetting to NOAA employees that have worked the hurricane and are not fully accurate based on the timeline in question," a NOAA analyst wrote to the deputy director of communications.

One scientist's criticism and demand from acting administrator Neil Jacobs to "address this crisis in moral leadership our agency is facing" prompted Jacobs to respond, "You have no idea how hard I'm fighting to keep politics out of science."

"We are an objective science agency, and we won't and never will base any decisions on anything other than science," Jacobs wrote, adding that the "forecast office did the right thing to calm the nerves of citizens."

The No. 2 official at NOAA, retired Rear Adm. Tim Gallaudet, wrote separately asking the scientist to accept Jacobs' reply as "a sincere acknowledgment of a press release we did not approve or support."

Emails previously released by NOAA in November showed that the NSW's Birmingham office wasn't trying to contradict the President as they were not aware of his tweet.

The New York Times reported back in September that acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney instructed Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to pressure NOAA to disavow the NWS' Birmingham, Alabama, office tweet. The Times also reported that Ross threatened to fire top NOAA employees, which the Commerce Department denied.
