Increased border thickness only decreases economic growth. You can see that right now with tariffs. Eg: Why is home construction cost rising in the US? Softwood tariffs.

Tariffs on Canadian Softwood imported to the US have been a thing since we started growing trees. There was a 10 year period when they didn't increase in the mid 2000's, but have been added ever since.
