The smoke is really bad today. I checked local news thinking there must be a big fire burning somewhere really close as we can smell it and my eyes are actually irritated this morning.

I feel for you. We had that for two summers from the BC wildfires. It is not pleasant. :(

Really started noticing it today. I saw a bit of haze Wednesday but today getting off work, the air smelled of smoke. We’ve had a light fire season in BC this year, but the rest of the west coast is in dire straits.

Same. Central Alberta smells like campfire.

I remember only a couple summers ago the red skies, waking up to cars covered in ash, choking on smoke and how we took the cat and puppy and evacuated to Terrace. Fifteen minute sits with a gov't agent and they handed out hotel/restaurant vouchers and lists of pet friendly places.
What I don't remember were anybody bitching about what kind of mask they were 'forced' to wear, how they didn't keep out 100% of the particles or anyone griping about them being fiscally irresponsible because these people had money, those people should've been helped by the Band Office instead, them were on welfare, etc. etc.
OMG if they'd only held rallies on the street about their freedumbs then, they'd know now what a ventilator shoved down your throat feels like.

My eyes have been so irritated these last 2 days. The smoke was even thicker today I think and we noticed ash (tiny white chunks) on our slanted skylight windows and deck rail today. It's never been this bad before which makes it a sad indicator of just how bad these blazes are.

When I checked Environment Canada website it's shown visibility in the past 24hrs in my area between 3km and 1.6km. Out of curiosity I picked a random day from 2 weeks ago that was sunny and visibility was 48km. 8O They are showing a 30% chance of rain tomorrow night and I hope like hell it does rain and rain good. Hopefully the rain will fall (no lightning please) and fall hard through Washington, Oregon and California as well to help extinguish these fires and clear the air.

Supposedly it’s going to start clearing out tomorrow and into Tuesday.

Smoke wafting north from wildfires on the U.S. West Coast has impacted the air quality so much that mail isn't being delivered in parts of B.C.

Canada Post made the announcement in a series of posts on Twitter Monday afternoon.

"We are suspending delivery for the day and not sending our delivery agents out as conditions have made it unsafe," the federal agency wrote.

The following areas will not have deliveries:

Metro Vancouver
North, South and West Vancouver Island
Okanagan Valley and Similkameen
Kootenay region
Thompson, Nicola and Fraser regions

Well that just about covers most of the province.
