Russian MMA fighter Maxim Ryndovsky was captured by Ukrainian forces.There is a horrifying video of him being tortured. I will not post it, but it's becoming a big story in Russia.
Authentic Ukrainian war crimes are now being used to justify escalating the war.
There was a story on Deadspin a few years back about how Russia/Putin were using the Chechen mafia to infiltrate and take over MMA training clubs all over Europe. They'd then use the clubs as a source of muscle for the usual gangster activities of drug trafficking, prostitution, loan-sharking, extortion, etc.. There was even some indications that the Chechen mob had even taken over some clubs in the US as well.
Russia's relationship with the Chechen's is a pretty dark one. The ones that sided with Putin during the Chechen war have been used as shock troops and brutal no-rules muscle ever since. This was already shown in Ukraine when that Chechen squad assigned to assassinate Zelensky got intercepted and wiped out. If the Azov Battalion ever goes toe-to-toe with a Chechen contingent it'll be a repeat of Eastern Front-type bloodshed seen in WW2 because both groups are insanely brutal and absolutely hate each other.
