French President Nicolas Sarkozy has officially announced his decision to deploy a battalion of soldiers to Afghanistan, relieving American forces in the east of the country so that they can come to Canada’s assistance in Kandahar.

That sounds like a very political decision. Something Chrétien would have done. Thinking that he could not sell to his electorate the deployment of troups in one of the hottest zones.

Overall, I am happy to see that our guys will get some greatly needed help. I would have prefer to see the French, mostly because the average soldier from the 22ieme Régiment (vandoos) speaks little English.
