Well, thue Russians are sending some ships to the area and I just read today that the Brits are sending one of their frigates to the area as well and that the EU is considering revising its policy on arming merchant vessels.

There are plenty of former military or police that are well trained, that could provide security for these ships.

Zodiacs with smg's can easily be countered with flank speed, flares, and if required a hunting rifle. Rubber is not bulletproof.

You guys don't get the fact that the pirates aren't stupid, and they come at an unlimited supply of funds and people. They are mostly bankrolled by arabs with connections deep in Africa and Dubai. These are very impressive operations, for what they're worth.

The first step would be to get some peace and order in Somalia, which is where all the pirate ships originate. No amount of NATO, or police, US or Russian action will stop the pirates from carrying out attacks. It's the bases that must be closed. That cannot occur without political change in Somalia itself.
