Fuck this is pennies compared to the $4 billion we gave GM and Chyrsler and nothing compared to the $75 billion we gave to some of the most stable and profitable banks in the world.

At least there is some government oversight/control with the CBC, these private corporations getting charity just piss it away and then come back, just like Oliver Twist, "Can I have some more please?"

The good news about bailing out Windsor and Oshawa (if there is any) is that the Big 3 are going down anyway, so we're gonna learn our lesson. We'd have been better off to take that $4B to Casino Rama and let 'er fly one time on 28 Black.

A few pennies more than the billion+ per year, year after year, decade after decade, given to a corporation that has never made any money, ever is a few pennies too many.

Regarding the arts community claiming 7.4% share of the GDP...so many producing so little.

Those all sound like good stipulations...after all, aren't those why CBC was founded in the first place.

$1:
Stephen Taylor adds his own statistics:

Of course, as noted, this occurs within the context of the global economic crisis. Despite this, CBC received $1.1 Billion from the taxpayer last year. According to the CRTC, CBC employs 10,200 people paying out $771,074,000 in salaries and benefits. This means that the average payout per employee at the CBC is $75,595.

Comparatively, the total numbers of employees at private broadcasters in this country is 7,402 with total salaries and benefits of $576,900,000. The average payout per employee is $77,938.

Is the CBC trimming the fat, or do they need some central planning from the government to help them do so? Months ago, it was reported that the executive VP for French-services expensed over $80,000 for travel, meals, and theatre tickets.

If any of this is making you sick, the next fact won’t make you feel any better. The CBC lost $15 million in 2006-2007 paying for 68,000 sick days for its employees.

This is a home run for someone like me. The CBC needs to be privatized.

People get their news from the internet or newspapers, not the TV and if they do they turn to CTV or Globe. As for getting it free. CBC sucks. I have rabbit ears and I get CTV or Globe clear, but CBC is all snowy.

Fuck it, I've changed my stance on this, CBC should be privatised.

Why so it can rip you off even more?

Tell us again why everyone out in the boonies should have to PAY to watch the news, but you shouldn't.

I live in the boonies, my coat hanger works fine.

I wish someone had of thought of your coat hanger when the CBC idea was first conceived.

Diddly shit more needs to be privatized. The word should be smacked right out of people's stubborn little heads. Not one fucking thing ever privatized is better, cheaper, more available or delivers better service.

What was the return on the CBCs record bid to get the Chinese olympics? How did bidding against private industry with taxpayers money benefit Canadians?

I wouldn't call any of those things "assets".
