Looking back on it I can see why he stepped down now. He has done what he set out to do and in his own neck of the woods is hugely popular however outside of the Rock his leadership is seen as toxic. So Danny was a one off in that regard and I think he was needed in order to do what he set out to do but once that is done it was smart for him to pack it in and usher in a new leader, one that will not knock heads so much with the rest of Canada while still making the best for Newfoundlanders.

He's a Newfie Maggie Thatcher. What he did do is give NFLD some self-respect back and that was and is a good thing.

I lived for 3 years in NFLD, I have a great respect for the province and the people.
