Sitting here watching a show on History about the whole nazi genetics program. Has the irony of the whole thing ever struck others? I mean look at Hitler, Himmler, Goebbels and Goering............. do any of them look even remotely like this supposed aryan ideal to ANYONE? I mean theses madmen with no chins and round squat faces wanted a race of people with long narrow faces and strong chins...........

It is something I have always noticed but the idea never seems to come up when it is being discussed in any of the books I have read or on any documentary.

And on top of it, it is believed that Hitler suffered from Parkinson's disease. By his standards and beliefs, he should have been rotting away in Dachau from the get go.

Some do – many make note that Hitler’s primary goal was racial purity and that his goal was to provide Lebensraum (at the expense of the “inferior” denizens of Eastern Europe) for the emerging Aryan generations. Was he the epitome of physical racial perfection? No…but he was certainly culturally (and by extension racially) superior and he had realized his quasi Nietzschean goals, so while he wasn’t a perfect physical specimen in the SS vein, his other qualities and accomplishments certainly (in his mind) made him a perfect member of the Germanic race. Was this slightly odd in light of eugenics? Sure, but then, there are many discrepancies with Nazis theories and practice.

Just on a side – some contemporary journalists did point out the physical inconsistencies with leading Nazi officials (especially the speculation that Hitler’s ancestry might be at odds with the Nuremberg Laws regarding the protection of German blood) and the ideal Aryan, but as we all know, their voices and print were soon quashed under the boot of totalitarianism.

Wullu I think I can shed some light on this question for you.

The aryan or white race is made up of three sub groups.

Although these names seem to be referring to geographic places, they did in fact originally mean certain physical types.

The Nordic sub group is recognizable by their tallness, light hair and eye colour and long skull.

The Alpine sub group is recognizable by their shorter stature, round skulls and brown eyes and hair.

The Mediterranean sub group is recognizable by their middle size stature, and their dark eyes and hair. The Mediterranean skull shape can be long or round.

I'd guess your picturing the Nordic sub group when these folks you refer to are most probably of Alpine stock.

I wouldn't put it past him. Who knows what went on in the Lion's Den, the Eagle's Nest, and in the dark chambers of the Nazi hierarchy....
