Here's what they don't tell you about Caesar's brilliant tactics. The Britons even back then had this fixation with afternoon tea and taking weekends off. So, instead of having his troops get beat on by the Britons in standard set-piece battles, he decided to fight only during tea-time and on weekends

There is a reference to that in Asterix meets the Britons

The old way was to get a hairy and well armed gang of several hundred thugs, kill the local population and set up shop in their old village/ farm land.
And thus the English nobility was born.

Very true. The Lords were the guys who ended up being the richest by having the most thugs and killing off any competition.

The Kings were the Lords who ended up being the richest Lord by having the most thugs and killing off other Lords and Kings.

Political consolidation. It works wonders.

Sock, have you ever seen "The Tudors" on CBC? I know its a bit off the mark with historical accuracy but it's fun to watch.

Henry VIII reminds me of Tony Soprano.

Nope. But I'll check it out. History is certainly one of my major interests. Also I see it's already run, so there's should be a DVD set available somewhere.

New season starts this week I think and if you have on-demand, it's free with CBC to watch.

Hot chicks and interesting, historically based plots/killings/murders etc.

The Romans invaded Britain to prevent the Irish from ruling the world. Obviously, they succeeded.
