Man, those damn Romans have invaded again. Last time they did they didn't go home for 500 years.

Rome Total War is still one of my favorite games, and I always enjoy reading/hearing/watching a bit of Roman history. Thanks for the vids, Scape!

Here's what they don't tell you about Caesar's brilliant tactics. The Britons even back then had this fixation with afternoon tea and taking weekends off. So, instead of having his troops get beat on by the Britons in standard set-piece battles, he decided to fight only during tea-time and on weekends

Am sure many here have seen this. For those who have not, who find this period in history interesting. This PBS presentation may be of interest.
It is now on You Tube.

The majority of the current inhabitants of the British isles (Angles and Saxons) were barbarian invaders that came after the fall of Rome.

Very true. The only real Britons left are the bloody Trogs (the Welsh).

The rest of us are all intermixed with Romans, Celts, Picts, Angles, Jutes, Dane's, Noggies, tons of of Germanic tribes, Gaels, the bloody French (at least we got the Normans!) Irish, Flemish and Manchester City fans.

well on the bright side, most of the Normans were only French speaking Norse. Too much Frank blood would have had us collaborating or surrendering to the Germans. It's also ironic that the term Welsh comes from the Anglo Saxon word Walha which means foreigner.

One can say the Isles are Eurupe's melting pot.

The true melting pot would likely be Hungary, with Slavic, Alan, Magyar, Huns, Latins, Celts and Germanic people. Britain had Celts(Goeldic and Brythonic) and Germanic(Angles(Danes), Saxons, Jutes(Danes), Danes, Nor(se)mans) peoples.

Well Sock, once you get there it was pretty hard to get off.......

Europe is one big melting pot and always has been but illegal immigration in those days didn't involve renting a boat in Thailand and landing in BC to customs agents with umbrellas.

The old way was to get a hairy and well armed gang of several hundred thugs, kill the local population and set up shop in their old village/ farm land.
