Do you think that Mel Hurtig will be helping out in this election to educate the majority of Canadians who have no idea what is happening to there country?

I believe Mel has given a number of speeches in partnership with NDP constituencies and NDP MPs. But I'm not sure what he's doing this election; he has started working on a new book, and AFAIK his time is and will be consumed with that. I hope he DOES speak out though; and at bare minumum I'm sure he will still be sending information on the issues to his email list.

I like this idea, and if everyone on vive was wearing them, then people would start to wonder, is Canada at risk? Why are people saying this? I think it is a great idea. I will call around and see how much they might cost to print. I'll let you know if it is economical for us.

Don`t know if this is a good idea,but I came across a site http://www.rescueamericanjobs.org/
Maybe it would be a good idea to link with that site a online ribbon campaign?
I think that is a very good idea! Thank you !!!

May I also suggest that you consider, if possible, some kind of poster design (logo & information & link to Vive) in a 8 x 11 format that can be easily printed and distributed to friends and neighbours, local stores, etc. I am borrowing the idea from Nowar-Paix. They did something like this when Bush was in Ottawa.

I could print and photocopy about a hundred of those and distribute in my neighbourhood during my walks. This could be another effective way to inform people. I know that I do read leaflets and other material that people drop off in my mailbox, and follow through when it is relevant to my life.

The simple poster is also a really good idea. It was really effective when we did that on the census campaign, and we've frequently discussed offering more generalized posters and brochures in the downloads section, but haven't done it largely because we don't have much time to put that stuff together or post it there.

But it wouldn't REALLY take all that much to do, and it would be great if you distributed them like that, FurGaia! We do definitely need to raise more awareness in the "real" world.

In fact, when I think about it, it would be very possible to do regular (monthly or biweekly) newsletters compiling some of the info from the site, and maybe even offer them in a 1-2 page printable format too, to be distributed freely (or maybe sold for a small amount to cover copying costs, the way The Dominion has done). The newsletters and posters could all include the Vive URL to encourage people to seek more info.

Jesse has created the ribbon graphic, and the Red and White Ribbon Campaign for Canadian Sovereignty is up and ready to go! Take a look and see what you think.

Red and White Ribbon Campaign

Right now it's just an online campaign but I'd like to also offer the actual ribbons if we can so that individuals without websites can still take part--and we could possibly use that as a fundraiser for Vive. So I'm eager to hear back from you on the ribbons, Catherine.

Meanwhile there are instructions for making your own on the campaign page.

If you plan on making a ribbon to sell you should put the maple leaf on it somewhere! Your ribbon idea is great!

Nah, Bush'd just use that as justification for their typical line that Canada is full of terrorists, and parlay it into more "defence" and "security" integration. The problem is we're not fighting a straight-up invasion and occupation. So it needs different (ie more subtle) tactics to oppose it.

New addition to the campaign page is a downloadable/printable information sheet/poster. You can get it directly here:

http://www.vivelecanada.ca/downloads/NoDeep.pdf

Both Canada Kicks Ass and Canadian Content have emailed us saying they are supporting the campaign! This is definitely a good sign

If you check outthe campaign page again you'll see I've started a list of links to sites using the ribbons, to throw some traffic back their way and let us get a sense of the campaign's progress.

I haven't seen the ribbon on Canada Kicks Ass yet but maybe I missed it somehow?
