Canadians in Afghanistan
Following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 in the United States, Canada became the third-largest contributor to the NATO-led invasion of Afghanistan, behind the United States and the United Kingdom. Of the approximately 15,000 Canadian troops who have been stationed in Afghanistan, 2,500 remain as the standard complement as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
