  • Martin15: Hope the BCers can check to see their fish in the dark before buying it.
  • Freakinoldguy: Here's a better idea. If it's so safe bottle it and sell it to the Japanese Gov't officials who are strangely silent about this latest idiotic decision from the people who brought you that fun filled historical event called Fukushima.

But you've got to love this statement:

But it plans to remove all radioactive particles from the water except tritium, an isotope of hydrogen that is hard to separate and is considered to be relatively harmless.

I guess when you become sick from tritium poisoning it'll only be relatively sick:

Early symptoms of ARS typically includes nausea and vomiting, headaches, fatigue, fever, and a short period of skin reddening. These symptoms may occur at radiation doses as low as 0.35 grays (35 rad).

Remember we're not talking a few hundred gallons of water here let out by some nuclear power plant, we're talking millions of tons of this contaminated shit.

Tokyo Electric, or Tepco, has collected nearly 1.2 million tonnes of contaminated water from the cooling pipes used to keep fuel cores from melting since the plant was crippled by an earthquake and tsunami in 2011. The water is stored in huge tanks that crowd the site.

The utility says it will run out of room to store the water by 2022.

Just because the Tokyo Electric company fucked up shouldn't mean that the rest of the Pacific rim countries should pay the price. I'm also amazed with the "crickets" about this from the gov'ts who are screaming about putting single use plastics into the ocean. I guess it's a case of "if you can't see it, it doesn't count" and it must be alright because the Japanese apologized.
  • stratos: Olympic swimming will be interesting this year. 8) They can hold it at night with no lights needed because of the dumping.
  • Canadian_Mind: I love how nuclear waste has become the latest boogey man.

The radioactivity is significantly reduced when compared to the initial disaster.

Even if it were, the point of putting it in the ocean is that it will quickly dilute to the point of being completely harmless.

But you mention "nuclear" and everyone loses their mind.
