Comments:DanSC: I'm sure the current producers will gladly concede their market to the government.
The Harperites have moved us completely in the opposite direction of the consensus that the rest of the world is coming to. Mandatory minimums for victimless crimes is right up near the top of the list of idiocy that will be their legacy.
When it comes to Harper's policy on marijuana you're right Curt. It's a no brainer if adults want to smoke weed. I remember living in a neighbourhood where these underage kids were outside smoking up outside a corner store, and ask me if I could buy them some beer as I walked in.
I said no.
But, if an election was held tomorrow I'd probably still vote for the Conservatives again under Harper despite that. Only because the alternatives worry me more than the Conservatives do.
BartSimpson: If this law passes then those adults who are so dedicated to smoking pot can feel free to go visit Uruguay....which, if you think about it, is probably one of the reasons why they want to do this and that's to grab some tourist dollars.
Under this model, if drug-tourism is allowed to flourish it will undermine the whole idea. Maybe they'll allow foreigners to apply? If there's a black market for tourists and no enforcement, not good.
