  • Curtman: Crews had been in a defensive mode for most of the evening, meaning firefighters did not enter the fire zone due to concerns about explosions.

But Kuryluk said fuel that was inside the warehouse had burned down enough to allow crews to get closer to the fire with a foam truck borrowed from the Department of National Defence's 17 Wing base in Winnipeg.

he fire is between Loudoun Road and McCreary south of Wilkes Avenue.
Fire platoon chief Albert Sigfusson said so many fire crews have been tied up that the department has only about 30 per cent of their leftover force covering other fire halls in the city. About 18 fire trucks have been on site at all times since 8 a.m.
"It is tough because the fire hydrants are located a mile away," Sigfusson added.

  • Benn: I'd hate to know the outcome today if the fire had started there. 80km/h wind gusts. Say goodbye St. Boniface.
  • jeff744: CNN thought it was in Winnepeg and/or Winnpieg
