Not sure I agree with this.

Why not? You can opt out, and the legislation still makes the family wishes have priority over all others.

I disagree with people dying while being on a waiting list, while perfectly viable organs that could save or change their life go to waste.

I am just spare parts. ;)

I think it is a good idea. It seems to be fairly balanced legislation, the family can still say no or as Caleb pointed out you can opt out of it.

I worked on the team that developed Albertas' Organ Donor system. I can tell you, even if there wasn't legislation that said the families wishes came first, there isn't a Doctor around that will harvest organs without the Families consent.

I've been a registered donor for years now. I just checked and I registered in 1998.

They can have it all and hopefully some of it will still be useful or at least interesting.

I signed the donor card 50 years ago... they better come and get them while they're still in reasonably good shape.

In Alberta, there is a little symbol on your drivers license to indicate you are a donor. :)

If you don't have the symbol, you get asked if you want to sign up when you renew your license.

Here, it's an option when you renew your health insurance card, because some people don't have a drivers license.

I'm trying to think of where the worst drivers I'm seen were and nothing comes to mind except "parking lots".

Sounds like a great idea. They don't need them anymore, why let them go to waste?
