B.C. is not a hot spot for tornadoes at any time of the year, so for one to occur there in the heart of fall is certainly a rare occurrence. Witnesses in Vancouver, B.C., captured video and photos of a tornado over the Strait of Georgia Saturday that r

Crazy afternoon around my area yesterday. Lots of rain and wind of course and there was a huge flash of lightning and huge boom of thunder around the time of the waterspout sighting.

The CBC link below includes a video taken near UBC.

I never in my life thought there would be a tornado warning in BC much less in Vancouver. I always figured the climate and the latitude prevented that. Guess I was wrong.

IIRC, anywhere it is possible for tornadoes to form. All it takes is 3 weather conditions to occur, and you get a tornado. (heating lift, upper cooling, and a cross or shearing wind)

But these conditions happen more regularly in certain areas.

True that. Like I said, I never expected those conditions to happen on the coast.

Nope. Just the new reality. Wild and weird weather.

I expected huge thunderstorms this summer when we had that heatwave, as temps above 26 usually mean t-storms. But there was no moisture, so no storms.

We got lots of dry lightning during the heat wave, and some pyrocumulus clouds from the fires.

    Sad but true.

And yeah I totally expected some nasty thunderstorms after that vicious heatwave this summer. That’s the usual SOP for hot weather around here.
