Canadians in Mexico's northwest are being advised to take extra care amid an outbreak of violence following the arrest of Sinaloa drug cartel leader Ovidio Guzman, a son of jailed kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

    I know Mexican officials keep saying 'Mexico is safe', but when they tell tourists to 'shelter in place', then Mexico is NOT safe.

    Which is why I will never go to Mexico. Although I would love to.

    They try to keep the tourist areas safe. Which is why it’s a little shocking that even tourists have to worry now.

    This is why I worried when my parents bought a vacation home in Mexico to act as snowbirds. Nothing bad ever happened to them (thank God), but I flinch a bit every time I hear about violence in Mexico.
