HOLLYWOOD — The Oscars were a total disaster for Canada last night.

Total shut out. I haven't seen 'No Country for Old Men' yet, but it better be good.

I was surprised that neither Ellen Page nor Julie Christie won for Best Actress.

I was really surprised that neither Canadian film nominated for Best Animated Short won.

Oh well. It's probably an honour just to be nominated. And with all the honours which have already been awarded to 'Away from Her', an Oscar nomination or two was just icing on the cake. It was a wonderful English-Canadian film.

i wasn't surprised that Ellen Page didn't win. while she was really good i didn't think it was that outstanding of a performance... but that's just me. I am happy that Juno won best screenplay because it was brilliantly written and had some of the best lines I've heard in a movie in a long time

Oh my god! I totally didn't recognise her, but yeah! She played (for a short time) Jim Lahey's daughter on TPB.

I was definately rooting for the Canadians last night, and Ellen especially, but I can't say it's that much of a disappointment for Juno - really, though, consider the scale of how it began and how its progressed, all those involved should only see it as the biggest success of the year.

On a related note, did anyone watch the interviews with Barbara Walters? Ellen was there and was amazingly charming as always.

As I watched her there on the red carpet, I could just picture Treena Lahey buying pepperoni for Ricky

Not just a bad night for Canucks at the Oscars, a bad night for the Oscars at the Oscars. Lowest ratings in 20 years? Could it be because, aside from Juno, no one actually went to see the movies nominated?

So it's not just me - I was feeling bad that night for never having heard of any of the big winning films

Which reminds me - I couldn't believe Transformers didn't get the FX award - when I watched The Golden Compass I was never impressed by the effects. That was nonsense.

Hell the only reason I heard of Juno is because the local news would not shut up about Page. The rest of them? Never heard a peep about them.
