When Alison Garcia, 16, announced that she was leaving home to be with her 36-year-old lover, her parents could have been forgiven for hitting the roof.

If this were an article about a 36yo man and a 16yo boy the HRC would be investigating the newspaper's commission of a 'hate crime'.

The mother said, ""We took the liberal approach to bringing up our child."

And so they should not complain as they reaped precisely what was sown.

"We treated her like a mini-adult all along, never taking the attitude that because she was a child we should treat her as less of an equal."

Her mother appears unaware that Craig was not her first, but her fourth lover.

"We don't talk about sex as such," says Sheila.

"I know she's had sex education at school - but to my knowledge she wasn't sexually active before she met Craig.

"I don't know what she gets up to in that respect now. I don't ask because I don't want to know the details."

    So much for equality

I didn't see where the article was from. I just assumed south of the border because of the ads on the website. Well thats just retarded then. She may be the age of consent but who at that age ever had any idea what the world was all about. I know we all thought we did, but we didn't get everything.

Age of sexual consent or not - those parents are morons. They didn't know their teenage daughter was frequenting pubs till 1am - begs the question what did they think she was doing?
And what on earth can a 36 year old man have in common with a 16 year old girl?

It's no great secret that the yob-culture of Britain turned into Maury Povich-people a long time ago. Just more cheap laughs for those of us who are still passing for normal.
