Recent rounds of job cuts by major corporations suggest it's Canada's turn to experience some economic pain, a prominent economist said Tuesday.

It's a shame this fear mongering always comes from the bitter East part of the Country..

Geez, that's just brilliant. Who is going to buy gas to drive their cars if they are all on the unemployment line?

Economists are annoying. At least half of them are wrong.
Every day. But the next day, some of the ones who were wrong might
    be right. Or not.

"Canada's economy is a bastion of strength compared to what is happening globally," she said.

I love how they all ways have these "OUR DOOOOOOM IS NEAR" headlines but then leave remarks like that until the end of the story. Now if it were the Liberals in power you'd see remarks like those qouted as the headline and the "Canada's economic picture darkening: economist" at the bottom of the story.

I don't understand why economists insist on pointing out the obvious, everyone who can read can pick up a newpaper and know that unemployment is increasing and people are losing their jobs. Why don't they provide some solutions since they are considered "experts" in the economy, anything else is a waste of time.

"Canada's economic picture "darkening" ". Now there's a profound bit of observation if I ever heard one . The U.S. is in meltdown mode, their dollar is liable to collapse in a matter of months with hyperinflation as a consequence. So how in the world a downturn here qualifies as something new, or is a pessimistic tone is beyond me. Canada will be lucky to come out the other end of this with any economy left.

It's not like this is the end of the USA. This has happened before and we will recover.

And it seems to me like our "meltdown" is affecting Canada.
