The Toronto stock market hit an 800-point downdraft Monday as a $700-billion US financial bailout bill was voted down in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the price of oil dropped below $100 US a barrel.

    Wow, he never said that we would be 100% insulated and life would go merrily along, our banks are strong because they are regulated and didnt get into the same amount of mess that American banks did, we will survive and comeout of this better than you fear mongerers think.

    True. CIBC is the one that will be hardest hit and it wasn't going to be much more than business as usual for them. They make bad investments all the time.

    Look, I always look at the United States as a strong nation, a world power. Needs a strong leader, with foreign experience, willing to go after the bad guys when needed, anywhere in the world.

    That is McCain/Palin & the Republicans.

    Canada, has always has been a country that is a peaceful nation, who cares about it's citizens, universal health care, safe streets, family values, citizens rights.

    We don't need a huge military, and our population with only 30 million should not be trying to compete with a country of billions in a manufacturing capacity and selling off all our resources to a hungry bloated population south of the border.

    We need to protect our resources (water, oil) for our childrens future, not being greedy and only benefiting a few fat cats at the cost of Canada's future.

    Well I officially went to register to vote and voted today. :D

    First time since I returned to Canada 3 years ago.
