As much as I like seeing religion finally paying tax's. That is going to hurt there charity donations. Though this is the Catholic Church. They are rolling in dough, I am sure they can afford a measly 400, 000 a year. That's pope pocket change.

I thought it did. I mean, if the nuns move into an efficient structure...what's the big deal? They do both God's work with helping the poor/homeless, and try to save the environment at the same time. Sheesh.
Smacking someone with a tax bill they were exempted from previously because they moved to a more efficient building smells strongly of bad legislation. Were they informed or made aware of the situation in any way?
According to the article they weren't exempt before but a mistake was make that allowed them exemption, the government wasn't going to allow the mistake to continue.

Why should it?. I agree they are providing a good service but so does the local boys and girls club or the local old folks home, dont see any taxs breaks there, hell maybe we should give the police a tax break too since they "protect" us.
We don't though, cause the land is the same regardless of what the property on it does. You own property you pay property tax
