A New Democrat MP is raising questions about a Spanish fishing vessel that sank like a stone on Sunday on the Grand Banks, as the crew scrambled into the North Atlantic.

Is this MP just making some noise for himself or is there some kind of point to this? Unlike the commenters on the article, I can't see them scuttling their own ship because they caught too many fish or that they were smuggling dope.

oh yeah, its better to scuttle the boat in the North Atlantic in February rather than worry about a fine for too many fish caught outside our zone..

    dippers

We're going to spend how many tens of millions of dollars to raise a ship so we can count to ensure they didn't catch too many turbot?

It wouldn't be the first time something like that happened such as the Turbot War where Spanish trawlers were overfishing turbot in Canadian waters than ran away and cut off their fish nets to hide evidence (which didn't work).

How much is a load of fish worth compared to a 4 year old fish boat? Someone made the observation that they scuttled it for insurance but why come all the way out here and fish for a while first?

If this were an insurance scam I would think they would want to scuttle the ship in the Caribbean as opposed to the North Atlantic.
