Protestant factions surrender weapons in N. Ireland

Two prominent paramilitary groups in Northern Ireland officially announced their disarmament Saturday in a long-sought peacemaking move that followed four decades of attacks against Irish Catholics.

    If history has taught us anything, it will be many years before this happens.
    But this is a step in the right direction.

    It definatly is a step in the right direction also there needs to be a cultural awareness where folks in Northern Ireland need to at least be exposed to what "the other side" thnks and feels. The more of that that goes on the less they will think of the other folks as "the enemy". I know it is easier said than done, but that would be the next step.

    One issue with this. North Irish Protestants have the British military basically on their side.
