While I'm happy that their around to pay for the restoration, their still private planes in a private collection. Based on that fact, I don't see that they need the help of the Canadian forces or government.
Reguardless of who owns it? Canada could help this man re-build these warbirds only to see him get bored of this and sell them off to the highest bidder.
