With just four days to go until the 2010 Winter Games begin, the Olympic torch relay is rolling through the suburbs of Metro Vancouver, en route to the opening ceremony at BC Place on Friday afternoon.
When I was waiting for it, an American stumbled out of his hotel, and was walking by, so he stopped to have a look, to see what the fuss was all about. He didn't seem to know there was an Olympics coming to the city.
The torch passed by a block away from my work today... went to see it with some co-workers but they seemed to be running behind and the whole thing went by so quick that my pictures are terrible and not really worth posting...
Kinda cool though, there was quite the big crowd gathered, almost everyone wearing red (me too!) and waving flags and banners. I was a bit taken aback by the number of cops involved in the "parade" ahead of the torch-bearer and by the number of support vehicles involved though.
I work in a very touristy area and it's great to see the patriotism being displayed. There are far more Canada flags decorating local businesses than you even see on Canada Day. Walking around the neighborhood is really cool, everyone is really into it including where I work. We'll all be wearing something red everyday during the Olympics.
