Most of us are accustomed to money covered with dead historical figures and scenic historical monuments. In the Great White North, they are minting commemorative coins adorned with Québécois lake dragons and underwater panthers. If you live anywhere but C

Wow what a deal!! $25 for a 25 cent piece. I guess that's the definition of hyper-inflation.

    Nice lookin' coins though.

What crap. Who the hell ever heard of the Memphré? Ogopogo, Manipogo, Cadborosarus yes, but Memphré?

Yeah. Couple of coins with never heard of Quebec monsters.

Should put up the Thetis Lake monster if they're going that route.

Pretty cool, but I've never heard of either of these creatures either.

FYI, i09 is an awesome website for finding stuff like this - they always have tons of weird/odd news items and lots of interesting articles about all sorts of stuff.

Watch for Canadians carrying these into the USA to be stopped by the mouth-breathers from Homeland Security the same way those tards stopped Canadians who had the terrorist weapon of a 25 cent piece with the poppy on it.

Well, at $25 a piece, I don't think people will be doing anything other than buying them and leaving them in their safe deposit boxes. Especially when Americans retailers are loath to take any Canadian currency, nevermind coinage.

Ha, and they make fun of us for using coloured money! Between this and the new plastic cash coming out next year, I think our money's pretty darn cool. IMO, something as simple as money can improve the brand personality of a country. I've heard tons of Americans complain about the blandness of our multiculturalism, but it's hard for them to ignore something as mundane as our money.

EDIT: Man, I usually hate the Gawker news network, but i09 never fails to deliver.

Memphrémagog is a nice place to visit, even without the dragon/serpent.

Don't we have enough native species without having to put imaginary ones on our coins? :?

I like that we (Canada) can be creative on our currency and have cool coins. Wonder if the Americans will freak over them like they did with the poppy coins!!

Going to have to store some of my current cash somewhere safe then, another 50-100 years and it may be worth a little extra.
