One day after a stunning come-from-behind win, Alberta's new premier-to-be is vowing to immediately reimburse government cuts to education along with rebuilding the province's ailing health-care system.
I have to say, I like her so far. No other Premier (in any province) has gone to places like Bosnia or Afghanistan to oversee their elections. No other Premier has promised to do away with the 'old boys club'. And seeing the poor choices and poor turnout yesterday in Ontairo . . . I like her that little bit more.

I'm a moderate/centrist, and I'll be voting for her in the next election (I campaigned & voted for her in the leadership campaign).
I almost feel sorry for the Libs/NDP, as she's going to steal a lot of their votes come election time. As for the WRA, she's going to wipe them right out of Calgary and Edmonton, and at best, they'll have some rural seats. But Redford is tough cookie and she'll throw some goodies at rural Alberta and they'll back her too.
I'm beginning to agree. If Albertans were as hard-right as the SUN and Dave Rutherford want everyone to believe then we would have elected someone like Ted Byfield as Premier a long time ago. Hasn't happened yet. Ain't gonna happen ever. We're not that dumb and we're certainly not that puritan either. Hopefully Danielle Smith isn't as stupid as to believe any of that Canadianized Tea Party crap the righties keep pushing is gonna work up here. If she is then she better get ready for the disappointment of a lifetime on election night.
Redford's also said that she'll stabilize funding for crime-fighting, which should be a huge relief for the Calgary police as our idiot city council's seriously talking about gutting the police budget. She's also opposed to running the ring road through Weaselhead/Glenmore Park. Two win-win's right there in my opinion.
As far as PCs go she was the best of the crop we were presented to acclaim as premier. I'm actually hoping for a more balanced house with a workable opposition this time around. It's been far too long since we've actually actually had anything of the sort in Alberta. I think that she'll probably win and hope that the WR don't get much in the process. So far she's moving in the right directly with those education cuts and a few of her other ideas.
I even went to see her sworn in this morning.

She sure is a breath of fresh air.
