It was a fashionable idea to employ this kind of vacuum system for the heads. It's essentially the same system that's popular on lots of cruise ships and it's just as bad.

A German commander(Schlitt) supposedly caused his Uboat(U 1206) to be sunk at the end of WWII because he used the boat's newly installed heads incorrectly, while submerged. All the sewage backed up into the ship while they were submerged and flooded the battery room. This caused a chemical reaction, producing chlorine gas and when they surfaced to vent, they were caught by the allies and he scuttled his boat....if he had only waited for the crewman trained to operate the valves.

I'd hate to be a Hull Tech on that thing. :D

We went throught the same things when they first started installing the blackwater systems on the ships. They were constantly crapping out, pardon the pun and the hull techs were constantly taking the sytem apart which was a pretty shitty job.

I guess I'm not ecologically sensative but I'd still rather shit in the ocean than suffer a complete colon meltdown because some twit decided to save the planet.

Somehow I seriously doubt the Allies would have wanted to board to sub once they got within smelling distance of one of the hatches. PDT_Armataz_01_32
