One student fought for the right to hang the Confederate flag in his dorm room window. Not a white student. A black student fought for what he says he believes in.

Hold on a minute!!! I'm waiting for a Jewish student to hang this in his window.

I'd be very confused by an African American who pondered positively about "the good ol days".

Good for this kid taking pride in being a Southerner and recognizing that being a Southerner in the 21st Century has as much to do with slavery as being British in this century has to do with oppressing the Irish.

What's even better is that he's breaking down a racial divide that is sometimes represented by that flag. Now he's made the Confederate flag a potential symbol of unity. Good for him.

But we already have a great symbol of unity.

It's not what it used to be, my friend.

Seems there's some people who don't think it's worth saluting or respecting. And then there's others, like the kid in question, who will seek out something else to find a sense of pride in.

I keep a US flag hanging on my cubicle and you ought to see the sneers it gets. Which is part of why I have it there and it's not as a symbol of my unity with people I detest, it's a symbol of my defiance of them.

Holy crap I remember when I took a piece of cloth that seriously.

Reading the swill you write Bart gives me a major headache. It's like trying to negotiate with a bowl of oatmeal.

    Or this Flag :

hanging in a meeting room of the RRQ, Société St-Jean Baptiste, Guy A. Lepage or any other QC separatist.

The latter is simply too ironic since he gets paid by Radio-Canada (French CBC) funded by, oh that's right, the taxpayers.
